The government of the United Kingdom decided to open its consulate soon in Siem Reap province and the move is warmly welcomed by Cambodian government as a sign of increasing tourists to the country.

The issue of setup a consulate in Siem Reap was raised in a meeting in June 2008 in Phnom Penh between the UK’s Foreign Secretary of State Ms. Meg Munn and Cambodia’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Hor Namhong.

Besides, Ms. Meg Munn who is also a lower house representative raised the issue of the right of expression in Cambodia and expressed her hope that it will be further better in the future. She appreciated the Royal Government of Cambodia for the democratization in the country.

The two sides also discussed the global warming issue, in which Ms. Meg Munn said the British government has also contributed 20 million Euro to ASEAN for a project to prevent climate change.
