| Cambodian Senate Delegation Visits Australia At the invitation of the Parliament of Australia, the Cambodian Senate Delegation headed by H.E. Mr.OUK Boun Chhoeun, Chairperson of the Commission on Legislation, paid a visit to Australia from 18-23 June 2005. The aim of visit is to increase mutual understanding and further promote the friendly relations and cooperation between both Parliaments and Countries, Cambodia and Australia. During its stay in Canberra, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Presiding Officers of the Parliament of Australia, Senator The Hon Paul Calvert, President of the Senate, and The Hon David Hawker MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives. The delegation called on The Hon Alexander Downer MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and The Hon Philip Ruddock MP, Attorney General. The delegation also had the opportunity to meet with other Senior Officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, AusAID, and Australian Electoral Commission etc. During the meetings, both sides expressed satisfaction over the continued consolidation and strengthening of friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. The two sides also expressed their appreciation for the close cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism and transnational crimes. Moreover, the Cambodian delegation extended to the Government and the people of Australia its most sincere gratitude for the important role played by the Government of Australia in the current effort to help reconstruct Cambodia. The Hon Paul Calvert, President of Senate, and The Hon David Hawker MP, Speaker of House Representatives, also hosted a dinner in honour of the delegation. The delegation also met and exchanged views with other Members of Parliament at a lunch hosted by Senator Brett Mason, Chairman of the Australia/ Cambodia Parliamentary Group. During its stay in Sydney and Melbourne, the Senate delegation also met with Cambodian Communities, and had also the opportunity to visit several cultural sites.
