Australia provides assistance to Radio National Kampuchea On 16 June 2005, at the Ministry of Information, H.E. Mr. Khieu Kanharith ,Minister of Information, and H.E. Ms. Lisa Filipetto, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, signed a MOU on $2.3 million worth of aid in a period of more than three years in producing “ Talk Look ”. Government Official said that the purpose of the program is to let the people have their opinions about their living conditions and about their farms and about education. But this is not the forum to talk about politics or to serve any political party. The Radio National Kampuchea, which is receiving $2.3 million in support from the Australian government and assistance from ABC Radio Australia, will broadcast its first issue-oriented call-in show later this year. The Radio National Kampuchea’s hour-long talk-back radio show is expected to debut in November, initially running two or three times a week, according to Agence Kampuchea Presse. "Providing public pace for people to share information and voice their concerns is fundamental to democracy in Cambodia," Australian Ambassador said in the press release. The show “is particularly timely as it will support enhanced participation of rural communities in the upcoming election in 2006, commune elections in 2007 and the next general election in 2008,” the press release said. Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith said that this aid shows Australia’s intention to help foster and support the democracy and development goals in Cambodia.
