Banteay Srei Temple

Banteay Srey ( The Citadel of Women 967) is located about 35km from Siem Reap town to the Kulen Mountain, it’s a 30 minute drive to reach Banteay Srey from Angkor Wat temple. One of the historical places of Cambodia.

It was built by King Rajendravarman and Jayavarman V at the second half of the 10th century.

The enchanting temple of Banteay Srei is nearly everyone's favorite site.

The special charm of this temple lies in its remarkable state of preservation, small size and excellence of decoration.

Banteay Srei is a 'precious gem' and a 'jewel in Khmer art'. Banteay Srei, as it is known by locals, was originally called Isvarapura, according to inscriptions.

It was built by a Brahmin of royal descent who was spiritual teacher to Jayavarman V.

This work attracted the support of his brother and sister, as attested by inscriptions on the stone door jambs of the lateral sanctuaries of the central group.

Some describe it as being closer in architecture and decoration with beautiful models than any other temple at Angkor.
