Cambodia to Hold 2005 Angkor Wat International Haft Marathon Race

The 2005 Angkor Wat International Half Marathon and Angkor Wat Walking will be held at the Angkor Wat area on November 19-20 2005.

The main purpose of this event is for the fund-support to the landmine-victims after the long-term civil war, according to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).

The categories of the event comprise international half marathon for men and women, 21-km wheel chair, 10-km road race, 10-km artificial, 5-km fun-run, 4-km family-run, and 10-km and 5-km walking.

The National Olympic Committee was quoted as saying, the race will be the tenth of its kind in Angkor Wat since the first Angkor Wat International Half Marathon was took place in 1996.

Since 1996, there have been more than 11,700 competitors from 29 countries and regions attended the races, according to NOCC. And about 160,000 US dollars have raised for the charities.

Angkor Wat is the most famous temples built in 9th-13th century of the Khmer Empire era that is well known all over the world. Angkor Wat is situated 320km northwest of the Capital Phnom Penh.
